The Hospital
Andalusia Regional Hospital, a 2005 "Solucient 100 Top Hospital", is a 113-bed JCAHO-accredited Acute Care Facility that has served the heart of south Alabama since 1966. Offering a wide range of diagnostic, therapeutic, emergency and surgical services, the hospital has completed a $3.5 million renovation. Recent improvements include adding an 8,000-square-foot Level One Trauma ER, which opened in October 2002, renovation of the surgical suites, a fixed-base MRI expansion, and a GE 1.5 Telsa MRI with Vascular Console. The hospital also features a fully equipped eight-bed ICU and a 12-bed Inpatient Rehab Unit completed in April 2004. A new Birthing Center has five labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDRP) suites and a C-section suite.

Community Information

The Community
Located just 32 miles off Interstate 65, Andalusia is easily accessible, whether you fly into the modern Andalusia-Opp Municipal Airport or drive in on Alabama Highway 55, U.S. 29 or U.S. 84. The community's state and regionally accredited school system has an elementary school, a middle school and a high school. Andalusia Middle School features a unique "Explorations in Technology" program that prepares students for the high-tech workplace with courses in robotics, computers, lasers and fiber optics. Lurleen B. Wallace (LBW) Community College provides an excellent two-year program for advanced education on a beautiful 152-acre campus. The Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center, located near Andalusia in the heart of Alabama's timber country, provides unique opportunities for forestry and wildlife research. The city is also the proud home of the famous World Championship Domino Tournament, the Covington County Fair and the Solon and Martha Dixon Center for the Performing Arts.

Recreation
South Alabama offers a multitude of recreational opportunities. Just southwest of Andalusia is the beautiful 83,000-acre Conecuh National Forest that attracts visitors who want to swim, hike, camp, picnic and fish. Blue Lake and Open Pond are both located in the National Forest, which is known for its tall trees, crystal clear spring-fed lakes and clean fresh air. North of Andalusia, the 2,700-acre Gantt Lake and the 700-acre Point A Lake offer fishing, boating and water sports. Nearby Point A Park has camping and picnicing facilities. For hunters, several nearby wildlife management areas feature an abundance of dove, quail, turkey and deer. Andalusia has eight recreation parks, 18 ball fields and 20 public tennis courts. The city also boasts a nine-hole public golf course, and a beautiful nature trail for walkers. Andalusia Country Club offers an 18-hole golf course, restaurant, tennis courts and swimming pool.
